YOUR ENDOSCOPY
- You will meet your anesthesia provider on the day of your endoscopy (colonoscopy or upper endoscopy). The anesthesia provider will review your medical history as well as any relevant labs and studies that you have had.
- During an endoscopy, most patients receive an intravenous general anesthetic through an IV that is placed prior to the procedure. This allows you to be asleep during the endoscopy, while breathing on your own. Vital signs will be monitored throughout the procedure and a small amount of extra oxygen is provided through a nasal cannula.
- Your anesthesia provider will discuss the anesthesia with you and answer any questions you may have. You will be asked to sign an informed consent for anesthesia.
