Vincent J. Vilasi, M.D.
President-Partner
Vincent J. Vilasi, M.D., brings to FOAA Anesthesia Services more than 20 years leadership experience in the delivery and management of anesthesia services. Dr. Vilasi is president of FOAA Anesthesia Services, the premier provider of anesthesia services to hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers in Virginia. During his tenure as vice chairman of FOAA Anesthesia Services he also served as president of Evergreen Medical Billing, Inc. with responsibility for managed care contracting and oversight of CRNA and physician contracts. Additional responsibilities include compliance, quality assurance, practice development and strategic planning. Dr. Vilasi is board certified in both anesthesiology and internal medicine. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Vilasi conducted his internship and residency in internal medicine at George Washington University Hospital and his residency in anesthesiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Kamla Prasad, M.D.

Kamla Prasad, M.D., has been a staff anesthesiologist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital since 1994. During that time, he has served as a director and president of FOAA Anesthesia Services. Dr. Prasad has also served as an attending anesthesiologist at Beth Israel Medical Center and a clinical instructor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He received his medical degree from the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine, completed an internship in internal medicine at New York University Medical Center, a residency in anesthesia at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in ambulatory anesthesia from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. A widely published author and speaker, Dr. Prasad is board certified in anesthesiology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Medical Examiners and is a recipient of the U.S. Department of Education National Resource Fellowship.
Rosanna Hwu-Yun, M.D.

Rosanna Hwu-Yun, M.D., has been a partner with FOAA Anesthesia Services and a staff anesthesiologist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital for 22 years. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Virginia and her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Dr. Hwu-Yun completed her combined medicine and neurology internship and her residency in anesthesia at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
John Hynes, M.D.

John Hynes, M.D., has been a partner with FOAA Anesthesia Services and a staff anesthesiologist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital since 1988. During that time he has held positions as chairman of the anesthesia department at Inova Fair Oaks and president of FOAA. Dr. Hynes received his undergraduate degree in biology and graduated with distinction from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He received his medical degree from CIFAS University in the Dominican Republic. Dr. Hynes completed his residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia as well as a trauma anesthesiology fellowship at the University of Maryland, Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems in Baltimore, Md. He has been board certified in anesthesiology since 1987 and is a member of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation and the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia and a three-time recipient of the Physician’s Recognition Award. Dr. Hynes is also a member of the Virginia society of Anesthesiology, the American Society of Anesthesiology and the American Medical Association.
Steven M. Karp, M.D.

Steven M. Karp, M.D., has been a staff anesthesiologist with FOAA Anesthesia Services since 1992. He has held various leadership positions with FOAA and served as anesthesia department chairman at both Inova Fair Oaks and Inova Alexandria Hospitals. Dr. Karp received his undergraduate degree graduating Cum Laude from Duke University in Durham, N.C. and his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. He completed his anesthesia residency at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Karp is board certified in anesthesiology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and National Board of Medical Examiners and is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the International Anesthesia Research Society.
Mi Hwa Kang, M.D.

Mi Hwa Kang, M.D., has been a partner with FOAA Anesthesia Services and a staff anesthesiologist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital for 10 years. Prior to joining FOAA, she was an assistant professor in the anesthesia departments of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and West Virginia University Hospital School of Medicine and was a staff anesthesiologist at Magee-Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. Dr. Kang received her undergraduate and medical degrees from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, and completed her internship and residency in anesthesia at Georgetown University Medical Center. She is board certified in anesthesiology and completed a fellowship in obstetric anesthesia at Magee-Women’s Hospital.
Brent Lee, M.D.

Brent Lee, M.D., M.P.H., brings a wealth of experience in anesthesia and international medical leadership to FOAA. He has served as a medical coordinator with the International Medical Corps (IMC) in Kukes, Albania, directing a staff of physicians and nurses in development and programmatic activities during the Kosovar refugees’ repatriation. While an epidemic intelligence service officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Lee participated in various international health projects in Egypt, Haiti, Ethiopia and Morocco. Through CDC Dr. Lee also served as a medical officer at the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance/USAID and in bioterrorism surveillance. He has also served as a group leader for the Disaster Medical Assistance Team and International Medical/Surgical Team with the National Disaster Medical System in Boston. Dr. Lee is currently the chair of the Anesthesiology Department at INOVA Alexandria Hospital and since 2002 has served as a staff anesthesiologist at INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital. Board certified in anesthesiology, Dr. Lee is a graduate of the Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, RI, and holds a Master of Public Health degree (International Health) from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Lee did his residency in Anesthesiology at Georgetown University Hospital and received sub-specialty fellowship training at the UMMS/Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD.
Jai Lee, M.D.

Jai Lee, M.D., has been a FOAA partner and staff anesthesiologist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital for more than 25 years. Prior to joining FOAA, he held the position of instructor in the Georgetown University School of Medicine’s department of anesthesiology. Dr. Lee is a board certified anesthesiologist with special interests in advanced airway management and ultrasound guided nerve block. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Korea University in Seoul. Dr. Lee completed his internship in surgery at DC General Hospital and his residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in cardiac anesthesiology and pain management from Georgetown University Hospital.

Ricky Ramsey, M.D., has been a partner with FOAA Anesthesia Services and a staff adult and pediatric anesthesiologist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital for 22 years. He has also served as chair of the anesthesia departments at both Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and Fauquier Hospital. Dr. Ramsey received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Abilene Christian University and his medical degree from Louisiana State University. He is board certified in anesthesiology and has completed a residency in pediatric anesthesia from Louisiana State University Medical Center and Northwestern Medical Center and a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine from Akron Children’s Hospital.
Alan D. Shapiro, M.D.

Alan D. Shapiro, M.D., has been a practicing anesthesiologist for 20 years. A staff anesthesiologist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital since 1990, he has held leadership positions including anesthesia director with Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Surgery Associates in Falls Church, VA, and secretary/partner of FOAA Anesthesia Services. A member of the Cum Laude Society, Dr. Shapiro received his medical degree from Boston University and completed his anesthesia residency and ambulatory anesthesia fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY. He is board certified in anesthesiology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Shapiro also serves on the Loudoun County, VA, Health Council which acts as an advisory board to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. He resides with his wife and two children in the Fairfax, Va., area.
William Tse, M.D.

William Tse, M.D., has been a staff anesthesiologist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and a FOAA partner for more than 16 years. Prior to joining FOAA, he held the position of clinical instructor in anesthesiology from the Harvard University School of Medicine and department of anesthesiology at Mount Auburn Hospital. Dr. Tse is board certified in anesthesiology and received his undergraduate degree in biology from Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. He completed his internship internal medicine at Francis Scott Key Hospital in Baltimore and residencies in neuroanesthesia, cardiac/vascular and pediatric anesthesia and pain management at Massachusetts General Hospital. A Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Tse was a National Institutes of Medicine research fellow.
Julieta Virtudes, M.D.

Julieta Virtudes, M.D., joined FOAA as a partner and a staff anesthesiologist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in 1985. She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Santo Tomas College of Science in Manila, Philippines. Dr. Virtudes completed her post graduate training as a medical staff member at the Orion Rural Health Center in Orion, Bataan, Philippines. She completed her residency in anesthesiology at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark where she served as chief resident. Prior to joining FOAA, Dr. Virtudes was a staff instructor at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and a staff anesthesiologist in the department of anesthesiology at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore.
Rebecca Freese, M.D.

Rebecca Freese, M.D. has been an anesthesiologist with FOAA Anesthesia Services since 2007 and specializes in quality and compliance initiatives for the group. Dr. Freese is board certified in anesthesiology and received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed an internship in internal medicine at Winthrop University Hospital followed by a residency in anesthesiology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She also completed a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at the University of California at San Diego. She is currently completing her MBA in medical services management at Johns Hopkins University.
Sonia Szlyk, M.D.

Sonia Szlyk, M.D., joined FOAA after serving as a Clinical Instructor at Stanford University Hospital in Stanford, CA. Director of the FOAA Regional Anesthesia program, Dr. Szlyk is an accomplished lecturer and educator specializing in ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks and catheters. She received her undergraduate degree in biology and Spanish from Bates College in Lewiston, ME and her medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Szlyk completed her residency at The George Washington University Hospital where she was the recipient of the ICU Resident of the Year award. She is board certified in anesthesiology and is a Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Szlyk is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine.
