FOAA Anesthesia Services (FOAA) was again named a
recipient of the 2012 PRC National Award for Excellence
in Anesthesia Services for four of its hospital
anesthesia departments.
FOAA, the exclusive anesthesia services provider at Inova
Fair Oaks, Alexandria, Mount Vernon Hospitals and the
Northern Virginia Surgery Center (NVSC), claimed the
distinction as surveyed by Professional Research Consultants
(PRC). FOAA's anesthesia staff at Inova Fair Oaks and Mount
Vernon Hospitals and Northern Virginia Surgery Center won
5-Star Excellence Awards, while the anesthesia staff at
Inova Alexandria Hospital rose to claim a 4-Star Excellence
Award from PRC's medical staff perception research.
FOAA Anesthesia Services
was compared to a national database of 462 healthcare
facilities and, for the fifth year in a row, was named a
recipient of the Five-Star Award. The designation is given
annually to hospitals and anesthesia service providers that
score in the top ten percent (i.e., at or above the 90th
percentile) of PRC’s national medical staff perception for
the prior year. The designation is based on the percentage
of physicians who rate the anesthesia service “excellent”
for any of the questions relating to medical staff
perception.
Professional Research Consultants is a nationally-known
healthcare marketing research company headquartered in
Omaha, Nebraska. PRC is in its 32nd year of providing
marketing research for hospitals across the United States.

Virginia's U.S. Senate Productivity and Quality Award Medallion of Excellence
FOAA is the exclusive provider of anesthesia services to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, the recipient of Virginia’s U.S. Senate Productivity and Quality Award Medallion of Excellence. Adapted from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the award recognizes excellence in business approaches, deployment and results. The SPQA program was established in 1982 through a U.S. Senate resolution to foster awareness of the need for productivity improvement and to recognize organizations at the state level that demonstrate such improvements.
Applicants are evaluated on eight criteria: Maturity of Effort, Top Management Commitment and Involvement (Leadership), Employee Involvement, Development and Management of Participation, Recognition and Rewards Systems, Plan for Continuous Improvement, Performance Measurement Process (Use of Information), Customer and Supplier Involvement, and Results Over Time.
